The final year of medical school has arrived, and with it the need to learn with purpose. I’ve decided to start writing again, not out of sentiment, but out of strategy. Cognitive neuroscience makes a simple point: if you want to understand something deeply, teach it. Since I don’t always have someone beside me to explain things to, I’ll do the next best thing—write as if you are my students.

I’ll be learning and explaining side by side. The writing will be intuitive, straightforward, and honest about the process. This isn’t my first attempt at keeping a blog; previous efforts dissolved quickly, like tissue in the rain. This time, I intend to hold the line.

As for AI, yes—you will occasionally see the fingerprints of tools like ChatGPT or Gemini, used not to replace my thinking but to sharpen the clarity of what I write. Everything else will come from my own tired, jittery fingers somewhere in the south or west of Sri Lanka.

Here’s to a final year lived with intention, discipline, and a little stubbornness.

Cheers,
Raveen
